Slash Artist
In 1996, Troika Ranch Artistic Directors Mark Coniglio and Dawn Stoppiello coined the term "slash artist" to describe both themselves and other artists who create hybrid work.

The term came about because Mark & Dawn were constantly meeting artists who described themselves in a similar manner: "dancer slash performance artist" or "poet slash technologist slash actor," etc. These descriptions followed a common form: a string of metiers separated by the all-integrating slash (/). What these artists were struggling to describe was a practice that hybridizes multiple forms into something "other" which did not, as yet, have a name.
