Anthony Gongora began his dance training as a jazz and musical theater dancer in Los Angeles in 1982 and received his BFA Degree in Dance from California Institute of the Arts in 1988. Gongora danced with Loretta Livingston and Dancers in Los Angeles before relocating to Chicago in 1990. While in Chicago he performed with Chicago Repertory Dance Ensemble, Bob Eisen Dance, Mordine & Company and Jan Ekert & Dancers. His performances with these Chicago companies won him a Ruth Page nomination for Dancer of the Year in 1992. Gongora has presented his own work nationally and internationally and was a founding member of Loop Troop, a five member dance collective based in Chicago. He taught on the faculty of the Dance Center of Columbia College from 1990-1997, was a visiting lecturer at University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, an Associate Professor at Illinois Wesleyan and on the faculty of the Chicago Academy of the Arts. He is a recipient of two Illinois Arts Council Fellowships and has received funding from the Chicago Council of Fine Arts, the Unicorn Foundation and the Asheville Arts Alliance. Anthony will be a guest performer with Troika Ranch for their 2000-2001 season. | ||||||
