| Wireless Miniature Cameras | ||||||
| We have wireless miniature cameras in both Vera's Body and The Chemical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz. The dancer or performer has a tiny camera on their person, which is connected to a tiny video transmitter and battery pack worn around their waist. All of the devices that we have used were purchased from a company called Supercircuits, which has a wide selection of relatively inexpensive spy-gear.
In Vera's Body, we wanted to have a section that placed special emphasis on the body, that made the audience hyperaware of its (and their own) physicality. To this end, we had the dancer hold the tiny camera in her hand and point it towards various parts of her body as she danced. The view from the camera was projected on a screen behind her as she performed. In the end the audience was given three perspectives of her body: her corporeal presence, the video image from the camera, and her shadow on the screen when she danced in front of the projector. You can see the result for yourself in this video clip. View can view a video clip or a picture of this section of the piece. In The Chemical Wedding, we mounted a color camera on a boom in front of the face of Troika Ranch Artistic Co-Director Mark Coniglio. The image from this camera was seen on two video monitors hanging in the space. The idea was to create a discontinuity between the real character and his face. |
