IMPORTANT NOTE: Troika Ranch can often modify the specifications given below to fit your theater. If you find that you are slightly below the minimum specifications in some are, please contact us so that we can discuss the options with you.

Title of Work: 16 [R]evolutions

Running Time: Approximately 65 minutes without intermission.

Troika Ranch Personnel: 4 performers, 1 Artistic Director, 1 Computer Operator/Technology Specialist, 1 Lighting Designer/Stage Manager (7 total)

Personnel: The presenter will supply one technical director and two technicians capable in both lighting and sound for load-in, technical rehearsals, performances and strike. The technicians supplied for the technical rehearsals must be the same technicians used for the performances.

Ground Plan: The stage space needs to be an unobstructed space with the minimum dimensions of 36ft / 11m width (proscenium opening) by 32ft / 9,75m depth (curtain line to backdrop, plus 6ft / 2m of unobstructed wing space on both sides and a crossover. One of the three  video projectors (with wide angle lens) will be placed on the floor, downstage center, and must be a minimum distance of 36ft / 11m from the white cyclorama (see below).

Soft Goods: A white cyclorama that covers the entire width of the stage and is hung along the furthest upstage pipe is required. If the entire cyclorama cannot be filled with the video image (based on distance from the projector to the screen) then two black drapes will need to be hung stage left and stage right to mask the area on which no projection will be seen. Wings may or not be required - please consult with Troika Ranch about the needs for your theater.

Stage Floor: The stage floor must be either smooth wood or Marley dance floor over wood. The floor must be sprung and appropriate for dance and in no circumstances may the floor be concrete or cement. The stage must not be raked.

Media Station: Troika Ranch runs all sound and video from its “media station” which is generally located off stage left or right, or in the sound/lighting booth. Troika Ranch requires a sturdy, 6’ long table on which to place the equipment that comprises this station. Please consult with Troika Ranch about the best location of the media station within your theater.

Sound Equipment: Troika Ranch runs all sound from its “media station” (see above for more information.) If available, a quadraphonic sound system is preferred, with two speakers in front of the audience and two behind them. If a quad system is not available, then a standard stereo sound system can be used. In either case, the system should have subwoofers in addition to the two main speakers, as there is a great deal of low frequency sound that is integral to the piece. If a quadraphonic system is available, then four balanced lines that feed into the house amplification system are required at the location of the media station. For a stereo system, two balanced lines are required.

Lighting Equipment: Lighting for the piece will be designed based on the inventory of instruments available at the venue. A finished light plot will be supplied to the theater no later than one month prior to the performance date. Three or four booms (depending on stage depth) are required on each side of the stage. In addition, 8 six-inch, 500 watt fresnels with barn-doors (or equivalent) are required to illuminate the cyclorama with infra-red light. These are to be hung evenly across the most upstage pipe forward of the cyclorama and focused straight down, the goal being to keep the light on the cyclorama and off of the stage floor. In no case can these instruments be more than 6ft / 2m away from the cyclorama.Troika Ranch will supply the infra-red gel for these instruments.

Set: The set for 16 [R]evolutions is currently being adapted for a proscenium theater. It consists of four drops, made of fireproof clear vinyl, that will be hung from pipes suspended from the grid and/or ceiling. The exact specifications are being developed at the time of this writing, and will be available by March 15th, 2006.

Video Equipment:

Three video projectors are required. The first must be 4000 lumens or higher, with a wide-angle lens. (We use a lens with a 1.1 : 1 throw ratio – meaning each 1.1 feet/meters of distance to the screen yields 1.0 feet/meters of width in the resulting image.) This projector must be on the stage floor, or at the same level as the stage floor, as far downstage as possible from the cyclorama. The goal is to both fill the cyclorama and to allow the light from this projector to illuminate the performers.

An infrared video camera, supplied by Troika Ranch, is positioned next to this projector. A BNC composite video cable will be run from this point to the media station.

The second two projectors must be 3000 Lumens or higher with a standard 1:8 : 1 throw ratio lens. These will be mounted at downstage left and downstage right corners at a height of approximately 18 feet / 6 meters. (Some variation is possible in the location and height of these projectors.) The projector images are focused on the stage floor, such that these projectors can illuminate the performers. If necessary these two projectors can be mounted on the downstage light pipes, as long as the wings do not obscure the images.

The venue is required to supply rigging hardware for all projectors that it supplies, as well as SVGA cables from the projectors to the media center. AC Power (120/240V) is required at each video projector.

Work Schedule: A minimum of ten (10) hours is required for load-in and technical rehearsal one day before the first performance. The light plot should be pre-hung if possible, or the venue must supply a crew sufficient to ensure that all lights are hung and rough-focused within the first four hours of the first day, to allow time for final focus and programming the light cues into the board. A minimum of give (5) hours is required on the day of the first performance for additional tech and dress rehearsal scheduled no less than three hours prior curtain time of the first performance. Two hours for strike is required following the final performance.

Dressing Rooms: The presenter must provide one private dressing room to accommodate four (4) performers allowing non-public access to performing area.  The room must have makeup lights and mirrors, chairs and tables, costume rack and nearby lavatory, sink, and shower not accessible to the public. These rooms must be available to Troika Ranch at least two hours prior to all technical rehearsals and performances. The performance, dressing room, and warm-up spaces must be heated to a minimum of 74 degrees two hours prior to any activity in which performers will participate, including all rehearsals and performances.

House Size: The prime theater for this production is a 100 - 500 seat black box theater. Alternate staging options are not excluded but should be discussed with Troika Ranch Artistic Directors.
